The tourism sector in Nevada reached a major milestone in 2024, generating nearly $100 billion in revenue, according to a recent report from the Nevada Resort Association. This industry, which is the state’s largest, not only contributed significantly to Nevada’s economic landscape but also supported hundreds of thousands of jobs and provided substantial tax revenue.
Tourism’s Economic Impact on Nevada
The report highlighted that Nevada’s tourism industry had a total economic impact of $98 billion in 2024, accounting for 37 percent of the state’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). This figure underscores the central role of tourism in the state’s economy. Additionally, tourism directly supported 436,600 jobs, or 28 percent of the state’s total workforce, and contributed $24.4 billion in wages and salaries.
Nevada’s tourism industry also paid around $2.4 billion in industry-specific taxes and fees in 2024, making it the state’s highest-taxed industry. These taxes are crucial in supporting public services and infrastructure throughout Nevada. Moreover, the sector was responsible for generating 34 percent of the state’s general fund revenue, which is vital for financing education, healthcare, and other essential services.
Gaming and Investments Fuel Growth
A significant portion of Nevada’s tourism revenue comes from the state’s thriving gaming industry. According to the report, gaming revenue reached $15.8 billion in fiscal year 2024, a key driver of tourism and economic growth. This figure is indicative of the enduring popularity of Nevada as a major destination for both domestic and international travelers seeking entertainment, gaming, and other leisure activities.
In addition to the current revenue, the tourism industry is fueling long-term growth through $18 billion in planned or ongoing capital investments. These investments are focused on enhancing tourism infrastructure, including new hotels, resorts, and entertainment venues, ensuring that Nevada remains a top destination for years to come.
Contribution to Local Communities and Nonprofits
Beyond its economic contributions, Nevada’s tourism industry plays a key role in supporting local communities. The Nevada Resort Association reports millions of dollars donated to local nonprofits, highlighting the industry’s commitment to corporate social responsibility and community support.
