How Will Sarawak Engage Festivalgoers?
Festivalgoers will be treated to hands-on workshops led by local artisans and cultural practitioners, allowing them to learn traditional crafts and understand their significance. The Sarawak Iban Necklace Beadwork Workshop, led by Pungu Borneo, will teach participants to craft intricate Marek Empang, a traditional beadwork adornment worn by Iban maidens. Additionally, the Sarawak Rattan Coaster Making Workshop, guided by Kunang Studio, will provide attendees with a creative introduction to the region’s weaving traditions using natural materials like rattan and bemban. These workshops, priced at £35 per person, are a perfect opportunity for visitors to engage with Sarawak’s indigenous culture.
What Other Activities Will Sarawak Offer?
Along with the workshops, Sarawak’s contribution will include traditional dance performances presented by a troupe from the Sarawak Arts Council. The performances will provide a vibrant look at Sarawak’s rich artistic heritage, with shows running from Friday afternoon to Sunday evening on the outdoor stage. These performances are a highlight of the festival, offering a glimpse into the region’s diverse cultural traditions.
