SAii, a sustainable lifestyle resort brand under S Hotels and Resorts PCL, part of Singha Estate PCL, is proud to announce that both SAii Laguna Phuket and SAii Lagoon Maldives have been honored with the esteemed Sustainable Event Standards certification from the Event Industry Council (EIC). These two resorts are the first and only venues in Thailand and the Maldives to earn GOLD Certifications, highlighting SAii’s pioneering role in the green MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) industry. This achievement follows significant investments aimed at enhancing the event facilities at both properties in recent years.

In addition to this recognition, SAii’s ongoing commitment to sustainable hospitality is further demonstrated by the Green Globe certifications, awarded for three consecutive years to its Thai properties and for two consecutive years to its Maldives resorts. These accolades reinforce SAii’s dedication to promoting eco-friendly practices and cement its reputation as a leader in sustainable tourism.

SAii Laguna Phuket

SAii Laguna Phuket is Thailand’s first venue to achieve GOLD certification from the Event Industry Council (EIC), setting a benchmark for sustainable meetings. This outdoor event complex offers eco-friendly solutions aligned with the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau’s (TCEB) MICE Venue Standards. Its 1,900-square-meter MICE center, featuring the Similan Ballroom, nine breakout rooms, a VIP room with advanced AV technology, and three outdoor arenas, is entirely free from single-use plastics. The venue upholds sustainability by replacing plastic straws with reusable alternatives, installing recycling bins, and offering green transportation options. Event organizers are supported with tools that calculate the carbon footprint of their events, helping them minimize environmental impact.

Located between a lagoon and the ocean, SAii Laguna Phuket embraces its natural surroundings. The venue collaborates with Seeds of Change, a local organization focused on sustainability and environmental awareness, to create eco-friendly beach bags. These handmade bags, crafted from upcycled materials from past renovations, serve as a thoughtful souvenir and support the local community. Guests can find these bags in their rooms, ready for their island adventures.

The resort’s SAii Spa invites guests to experience traditional Thai therapies, such as herbal compress treatments, using locally sourced products that highlight the island’s cultural heritage. For those seeking local immersion, the resort offers activities that support the community, including cooking classes using regional ingredients and beach clean-up programs.

As part of its commitment to sustainability, SAii Laguna Phuket has introduced the Sustainable Sleep concept, outfitting renovated rooms with eco-friendly King Koil mattresses made from allergen-proof, moisture-repellent fabric. The resort also offers a variety of dining options, where sustainability shines through healthy dishes made with locally sourced ingredients and produce from the on-site organic garden. Guests can enjoy non-motorized water sports like kayaking, paddleboarding, and hobby cats—activities that provide endless fun while maintaining a zero carbon footprint.

SAii Lagoon Maldives, part of the CROSSROADS Maldives, is the first venue in the Maldives to earn GOLD certification from the Event Industry Council (EIC). As the Maldives’ first multi-island leisure destination, CROSSROADS features the Maldives Discovery Centre, where guests can explore exhibits showcasing the island’s rich history and culture. The Marine Discovery Centre, home to marine biologists, leads conservation efforts such as coral propagation, which are integrated into corporate retreat programs at SAii Lagoon Maldives.

The resort’s 326-square-meter Event Hall caters to over 400 delegates, offering cutting-edge technology and professional event services. Event organizers can plan a variety of sustainable activities, from beachfront boardrooms to eco-friendly experiences, all in line with Hilton Worldwide’s “Meet with Purpose” initiative.

SAii Lagoon Maldives encourages MICE groups to reduce waste and promote sustainability. The resort offers interactive dining experiences that highlight local, organic ingredients sourced from the surrounding Maldivian seas. The “Meet with Purpose” concept emphasizes healthy, sustainable dining while offering an enjoyable and memorable experience.

The resort also minimizes environmental impact during events by reducing the use of polystyrene, eliminating paper documentation in favor of electronic alternatives, and harnessing renewable energy from solar panels. The venue limits energy consumption during rehearsals, uses energy-efficient LED equipment, and has eliminated all single-use plastics to further support its eco-friendly initiatives.

SAii Phi Phi Island Village, recognized as one of the Top 100 Sustainable Hotels and Resorts by the Luxury Lifestyle Awards for its environmental initiatives, is a leader in eco-conscious hospitality. The resort has recently introduced an eco trail with several captivating routes designed to immerse guests in the local ecosystem. Whether guests are kayaking, cycling, or snorkeling, each route is thoughtfully crafted to provide distinct views of the island’s abundant biodiversity and stunning natural beauty. Additionally, SAii Phi Phi hosts corporate retreats and team-building experiences, including interactive workshops at the Marine Discovery Centre led by the resort’s marine biologist, mangrove planting sessions, nature walks, stargazing events, and much more.

“At SAii, we have integrated sustainable practices into every facet of our operations and customer experience,” said Michael Marshall, CEO of S Hotels and Resorts. “The recognition from the Event Industry Council and the Green Globe team, combined with our guests’ positive feedback, serves as a powerful motivator for us to continue our sustainability development agenda into the future, along with providing our guests with top quality hospitality services.”
