Radisson Hotel Group proudly announces a groundbreaking achievement as its first two hotels earn Verified Net Zero certification, meeting the ambitious 2040 Net Zero Methodology standards today. Situated in Oslo and Manchester, these properties have committed to fully eliminating Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, drastically cutting Scope 3 emissions following the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, and offsetting any remaining carbon impact through Nature-Based Solutions. This accomplishment stands out as the certification process is independently verified by TÜV Rheinland, a globally recognized third-party auditor.
By launching these Verified Net Zero hotels, Radisson Hotel Group is raising the bar for sustainable hospitality worldwide. The former Park Inn by Radisson Manchester City Centre has been revamped and rebranded as Radisson Hotel Manchester City Centre, officially achieving Verified Net Zero status as of May nineteenth, 2025. Meanwhile, the Park Inn by Radisson Oslo City Centre is undergoing a transformation into Radisson RED Oslo City Centre, which will operate as a Verified Net Zero hotel starting July 2025.
Holistic Carbon Management Across All Emission Scopes
The Verified Net Zero program encompasses a complete carbon management strategy, covering direct emissions from hotel operations (Scopes 1 and 2, per the GHG Protocol) and indirect emissions related to supply chains and other operational aspects (Scope 3). Both hotels operate entirely on renewable energy, either through full electrification or by purchasing one hundred percent renewable electricity for all facilities, including heating, cooling, hot water, cooking, spa, and pool areas. Additionally, Radisson Hotel Group has overhauled its supply chains with a focus on reducing emissions from food and beverage sourcing and hotel-related transport.

Any residual emissions are fully compensated through investments in Nature-Based carbon credits via a partnership with Agreena, Europe’s largest soil carbon program. This initiative supports over two thousand three hundred farmers dedicated to regenerating more than four and a half million hectares of farmland, effectively removing carbon from the atmosphere.

Radisson Hotel Manchester City Centre employs heat pumps to provide hot water and has fully electrified kitchens equipped with induction cooktops, completely eliminating gas use. The electricity powering the hotel comes exclusively from renewable sources, ensuring zero dependence on fossil fuels.
In Oslo, Radisson RED Oslo City Centre draws power from renewable electricity combined with district heating supplied by the city’s green energy grid. Unique to Oslo, this district heating system utilizes renewable heat generated from sources such as waste treatment plants and data centers, making it one of the few in Europe to be fully sustainable.
Collaborating with Swedish sustainability experts Klimato, Radisson Hotel Group has developed menus that reduce the carbon footprint of all food offerings, including in-room dining, event catering, and breakfast buffets. The menus prioritize fresh, seasonal ingredients and have successfully lowered carbon emissions by up to forty percent without sacrificing flavor. Guests are guided by clear labels ranking dishes from A (lowest carbon impact) to E (highest impact).
Innovative Waste Minimization Initiatives
The hotels follow strict Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle guidelines to ensure minimal waste reaches landfills. Measures include:
- Implementing eSmiley software in kitchens to monitor food waste and adjust portions accordingly.
- Partnering with Too Good to Go to redirect unused food to the community at affordable prices.
- Recycling coffee capsules in collaboration with Nespresso.
- Providing glass water bottles in guest rooms and conference areas instead of single-use plastic.
- Offering recycling stations throughout the hotels, including guest rooms and public spaces.
- Conducting waste audits to maximize recycling efficiency.
- Reducing paper use through the Stay E-concierge app, which facilitates digital check-in, check-out, and invoicing.
- Using bulk bathroom amenities with recyclable packaging provided by Clean the World.
- Phasing out plastic toiletries and minimizing waste from accessory items.
