As the Queen Anne embarks on its 111-night maiden world voyage, passengers sailing through Southeast Asia were recently faced with a chilling warning of potential piracy threats.

The alert, issued by the ship’s captain, set off a wave of concern and discussion among travelers, with many sharing their experiences on social media platforms. The region, known for its history of piracy, specifically the Sulu and Celebes Seas surrounding Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines, prompted the cruise line to implement precautionary measures to ensure passenger safety. Despite the tense situation, the ship successfully navigated through these dangerous waters, with all passengers arriving safely in Manila.

Passengers aboard the Queen Anne, currently on its 111-night maiden world voyage, were recently warned of potential pirate activity while passing through Southeast Asia. The cautionary message quickly spread across social media, as passengers shared their experiences on platforms like TikTok.

On March 13, the ship’s captain alerted passengers that they were entering an area known for piracy, advising them to take necessary precautions. The instructions included turning off cabin lights, closing curtains and doors, and avoiding windows, balconies, or open decks. In preparation for any possible threats, the ship was equipped with pressurized fire hoses, which passengers filmed as they resembled modern-day cannons. These measures are standard procedure for navigating such dangerous waters.

The Queen Anne sailed through the Sulu and Celebes Seas, which surround Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines, regions historically associated with piracy. The International Centre for Counter-Terrorism has reported that some of the pirates in these waters may have connections to extremist groups like ISIS.

Despite the warnings, the Queen Anne and its passengers completed the two-day journey safely and arrived in Manila. The world voyage continues on its planned course, with the final stop in Hamburg, Germany, expected on April 29.
