Korea Showcases ‘30 Best Scenic Views’ to Attract Japanese Travelers
The Korea Tourism Organization (KTO), in collaboration with the Japan Travel Industry Association (JATA), has unveiled the “30 Best Scenic Views of Korea”, a specially curated selection of breathtaking destinations aimed at drawing Japanese tourists and boosting regional travel.
These 30 scenic locations highlight Korea’s diverse landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and hidden gems beyond the well-trodden paths. The initiative is designed to enhance local tourism appeal, encouraging Japanese visitors to explore beyond Seoul and experience the country’s lesser-known yet stunning attractions.
Strict Selection Process for Authentic Experiences
The selection process was meticulously conducted to ensure the finest destinations were chosen. The initial candidates were drawn from award-winning entries in the Korea Tourism Competition’s photography category. From this pool, a panel of Korean tourism experts and representatives from 14 major JATA-affiliated travel agencies finalized the list based on key criteria, including:
- Accessibility to each region
- Proximity to nearby tourist sites
- Connection to local cuisine and cultural experiences
Among the selected locations are:
- Seoraksan Mountain (Yangyang, Gangwon-do) – A breathtaking national park with dramatic peaks and lush forests.
- Hahoe Village (Andong, Gyeongsangbuk-do) – A UNESCO-listed traditional village showcasing Korea’s rich heritage.
- Haedong Yonggungsa Temple (Gijang, Busan) – A stunning seaside temple offering panoramic ocean views.
- Saebyeol Oreum (Jeju Island) – A picturesque volcanic cone offering spectacular sunset vistas.
- Suncheon Bay (Jeollanam-do) – A tranquil ecological paradise known for its wetlands and biodiversity.
- Mai Mountain (Jinan, Jeollabuk-do) – A striking twin-peak mountain resembling a horse’s ears.
To further promote regional tourism, no locations in Seoul were included, ensuring that Japanese visitors venture beyond the capital and explore Korea’s hidden treasures.
Strategic Promotion and Incentives
To raise awareness and foster tourism partnerships, KTO and JATA will embark on a promotional tour across Japan, hosting seminars in:
- Tokyo (March 11)
- Osaka (March 13)
- Fukuoka (March 14)
These events will introduce ‘30 Scenic Views’ travel packages to industry stakeholders. Additionally, an inspection tour for Japanese media and travel agency professionals will showcase must-visit sites, including Daereungwon Tomb Complex (Gyeongju) and Donggung Palace & Wolji Pond.
By the end of the year, JATA will also launch a contest for ‘30 Best Travel Products in Gyeongsang’, further incentivizing the development of tailored travel packages.
To encourage tour operators, various incentive programs and support measures will be introduced, ensuring that these unique destinations become top choices for Japanese travelers seeking authentic and scenic experiences in Korea.
