The Karnataka government has extended liquor-serving hours in clubs, star hotels, and bars & restaurants in Bengaluru to 1 am, up from the previous 11 pm deadline. This change, effective immediately, applies to establishments within BBMP limits.
Licensed clubs, star hotels, and hotels owned by individuals from Scheduled Castes and Tribes can now operate from 9 am to 1 am, while bars can serve from 10 am to 1 am.
The move is expected to boost revenue, create jobs, and enhance Bengaluru’s nightlife appeal. The Bruhat Bangalore Hotels Association praised the decision, highlighting its economic benefits. However, reactions on social media are mixed, with concerns about increased drinking and driving incidents.
This extension aligns with the government’s strategy to mobilize resources and cater to both locals and tourists, potentially invigorating the local economy and supporting the hospitality and transport sectors in a city with a population of 1.50 crore, including 50 lakh migrants.
