The Jersey City Jazz Festival is back for its 12th annual edition, bringing an exciting blend of world-class jazz, local culture, and vibrant community engagement to the heart of Jersey City. Organized by Riverview Jazz and presented by the Exchange Place Alliance, the festival will unfold on the scenic Hudson River waterfront at Exchange Place Plaza, kicking off on Friday, May 30 at 6pm and running through Saturday, May 31 from noon to 9pm. This year, the festival extends its celebration of jazz with a series of events throughout Jersey City starting Tuesday, May 27, culminating in a spectacular weekend.
The event is free to attend, with a ticketed stage—Clubhouse by Fords Gin—offering an elevated experience, as well as VIP options for those seeking an extra touch of luxury. With over 30 live performances planned, this year’s festival promises a diverse lineup of incredible talent across three outdoor stages, making it a must-see event for jazz lovers and festival-goers alike.
A Diverse Lineup of Jazz Greats
Headlining this year’s festival is Artemis, an all-female jazz supergroup led by renowned pianist and musical director, Renee Rosnes. With trumpeter Ingrid Jensen, tenor saxophonist Nicole Glover, bassist Noriko Ueda, and drummer Allison Miller rounding out the ensemble, this powerhouse quintet is known for their bold and fresh approach to jazz. Recently named “Jazz Group of the Year” for the second year in a row by the Downbeat Readers Poll, Artemis promises a performance filled with energy, innovation, and virtuosity.
In addition to Artemis, The Rumble, a high-energy New Orleans-based ensemble, will also take the stage on Friday, May 30 at 8pm. Known for blending Mardi Gras Indian traditions, brass band rhythms, jazz, and hip hop, The Rumble offers a unique, modern take on the iconic sounds of New Orleans. On the lineup are some of the most exciting names in jazz today, including LA-based keyboardist Sam Barsh, who has worked with Kendrick Lamar, alongside freestyle rapper Harry Mack. Also featured are April May Webb and Tyreek McDole, winners of the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition, who will bring their soulful vocals to the stage.
Other notable performances include saxophonist Tim Berne, trumpeter Kali Rodriguez Peña, the Astoria Salsa Project, and WBGO’s Next Gen Collective, all of whom promise to deliver a variety of styles Additionally, Steven Bernstein’s MTO featuring Catherine Russell will be performing, along with pianist James Austin Jr., rounding out an eclectic array of talent that reflects the depth of the jazz world today.
