BENGALURU – Maldivian (Q2), the national airline of the Maldives, is set to enhance regional connectivity with the introduction of a new direct flight service between Hanimaadhoo International Airport (HAQ) and Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (BLR). This route, launching on May 15, 2025, will serve as a vital air bridge linking the northern Maldives with India’s technology hub.
Strengthening Ties Between India and the Maldives
This latest addition aligns with Maldivian’s expansion strategy, reinforcing its commitment to boosting air travel between the Maldives and key Indian cities. Hanimaadhoo, an emerging regional hub in the northernmost part of the Maldives, is well-positioned to facilitate smoother access for both tourists and local residents.
The launch of this non-stop service underscores the Maldivian government’s broader vision to decentralize economic growth and tourism by improving international connectivity beyond the capital, Malé.
Flight Schedule and Aircraft Details
Maldivian’s twice-weekly flights will operate on Sundays and Thursdays from Hanimaadhoo and on Mondays from Bengaluru, providing convenience for both business and leisure travelers.
- Flight Q2-738: Departs Hanimaadhoo at 11:55 PM local time and arrives in Bengaluru at 2:15 AM IST.
- Flight Q2-739: Departs Bengaluru at 2:45 AM IST, reaching Hanimaadhoo at 4:55 AM local time.
The route will be serviced by the ATR 42-600, a modern turboprop aircraft known for its efficiency and reliability, making it well-suited for regional operations.
Enhancing Tourism and Business Opportunities
India has consistently ranked as a top source market for Maldivian tourism, with thousands of Indian travelers visiting the island nation for leisure, honeymoons, and wellness retreats. The direct connection from Bengaluru will provide easier access to the pristine beaches, luxury resorts, and vibrant marine experiences of the northern Maldives.
Conversely, Maldivians will now have seamless access to Bengaluru, a major IT and business hub, further strengthening opportunities for:
- Business collaborations and trade relations
- Medical tourism with Bengaluru’s world-class healthcare facilities
- Education opportunities in India’s premier institutions
This launch is particularly significant as Maldivian airlines continue to expand their presence in India, adding to their existing services to Trivandrum and Kochi. The airline previously operated direct flights between Malé and Bengaluru until early 2025, and this new route reaffirms its commitment to the Indian market.
Flight Bookings Open Soon
Travelers eager to experience this new service can start booking tickets from March 16, 2025, through Maldivian’s various sales channels, including:
- The official Maldivian website
- The Maldivian mobile app
- Ticketing offices and authorized travel agents
As Maldivian expands its network, the Hanimaadhoo-Bengaluru route will play a pivotal role in fostering stronger cultural, economic, and tourism ties between India and the Maldives. With increased accessibility and convenient flight schedules, this new connection is set to benefit both business and leisure travelers alike.
