Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita, the five-star oceanfront resort nestled in the Mexican Riviera Nayarit, invites guests to celebrate Día de Los Muertos with its annual Catrina Fest, a celebration of this timeless Mexican tradition with culinary events, cocktails, music, and culture. Held November 1-3, 2024, the festival will consist of a three-day celebration of food, spirits, and culture, welcoming notable chefs and mixologists from across the country as they highlight the region’s freshest flavors, accompanied by music, workshops, and entertainment to honor the annual cultural celebration.

SAVOR THE CELEBRATION
Executive Chef Jorge González of Dos Catrinas, alongside notable visiting chefs, will lead guests on culinary celebration that invigorates the senses, showcasing Mexican cuisine through multi-course dinners, cocktail parties, cooking demonstrations, and more. Visiting talent includes Chef Richard Sandoval, James Beard Semi-Finalist, Chef Carlos Galán (of Michelin-recognized Guzina Oaxaca in Mexico City), and Chef Jose Miguel García (of Espantapájaros and La Barraca in Mexico City).

TERTULIA NIGHT (6 p.m. Friday, November 1 | Dos Catrinas)
The weekend kicks off with a multi-station dinner at Dos Catrinas, to savor a diverse range of flavors and culinary masterpieces crafted in collaboration by both guest chefs and the Four Seasons’ culinary team. In addition, the energetic evening is complete with professional makeup artists offering traditional Mexican face mart, stilt walkers, and performances from local musicians.

BARBACOA DEMONSTRATION (6:30 p.m. Saturday, November 2 | Cuevas Beach)
Referring to the local indigenous tradition of slow-cooking a whole animal over a pit oven, chefs of the resort will demonstrate the preparation of the meat, marinated with agave leaves, and garnished with onion and cilantro. Complimentary for all on property, guests will be able to witness this historical and traditional practice, and guests of the Dos Catrinas will be able to savor in the prepared meat as a main course item.
DIA DE MUERTOS DINNER (7 p.m. Saturday, November 2 | Dos Catrinas)
Guests can indulge in a multi-course dinner experience at Dos Catrinas, during which each guest chef will be highlighted in their own course on the menu, to showcase their individual creativity and expertise. The dinner will be accompanied by performances from local musicians.

CLASE AZUL MEZ BAR TAKEOVER (10 p.m. – 1 a.m. Saturday, November 2 | Mez Bar)
To continue the celebrations after dinner, guests are invited to enjoy a nightcap at the property’s irreverent and upbeat MEZ bar in collaboration with beloved tequila brand Clase Azul, featuring celebratory decorations and a unique, signature Día de Los Muertos bottle, alongside innovative cocktails, more than 70 varieties of mezcal, and live music.
LA VIDA BRUNCH (10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Sunday, November 3 | Dos Catrinas)
To conclude the weekend’s festivities, guests of all ages are invited to celebrate life and friendship at the ultimate Sunday brunch buffet at Dos Catrinas, with delectable highlights including traditional barbacoa, chilaquiles, a raw bar, freshly made omelets and pancakes, and the signature Bloody Catrinas morning beverage, accompanied by live music from a marimba duo. COOKING CLASSES Hosted throughout the weekend and led by the culinary team these intimate sessions with the chefs allow guests to learn about and prepare traditional Mexican dishes.

This colorful tradition is perfect for families and kids. Our Kids Club has scheduled events throughout the weekend, to educate and celebrate the cultural traditions of Día de Los Muertos, including:
Mini Sugar Skull Piñata-Making (11 a.m. October 31 | Kids For All Seasons) – With the traditional technique of papel picado, children can use their artistic skills to create their own mini piñata, teaching them about the traditions of Día de Los Muertos and all that it represents.
DIY Mexican Paper Marigolds (2 p.m. November 1 | Kids For All Seasons) – Children will learn how to make paper crafts of the signature, iconic flower, the principal element on the Día de Los Muertos alter used to guide the souls to the family’s ofrenda.
Catrina Face Painting (6:30 – 7:30 p.m. November 1 | Las Cuevas Beach) – Dress up like a Catrin or Catrina with Día de Los Muertos-inspired face paint.
Pixar’s “Coco” Movie Night (7:30 p.m. November 1 | Las Cuevas Beach) – Families can enjoy the beloved cartoon with a beachside movie, while learning about the heritage and traditions of the Mexican celebration.
DIY Catrina Doll (2 p.m. November 2 | Kids For All Seasons) – Children can learn how to make a mini catrina using craft materials and their imagination, to take home their own character in celebration of Día de Los Muertos.
Sugar Skull Cookie Decorating (4 p.m. November 2 | Kids For All Seasons) – Children can make one of the altar’s signature elements, decorating cookies with colorful icing for special designs and expression of creativity.
Watercolor Contest (5 – 7 p.m. November 2 | Boutique Shops) – Children can explore their imaging and express themselves through this painting contest, with a special prize rewarded to a winner.
Kids After Party (8 p.m. November 2 | Game Room) – Following dinner, children are invited to enjoy a special kids-only celebration in the game room, complete with celebratory music and contests.
