Festive Weekend Revives Shimla’s Tourism Sector with 45% Hotel Occupancy

Shimla’s tourism sector received a much-needed boost over the festive weekend, as tourists flocked to the popular hill station for a holiday escape. The influx of visitors saw hotel occupancy rates soar to around 40-45%, a significant increase from the typical 10-15%.
Tourists enjoyed the scenic Ridge and The Mall, Shimla’s famed spots, creating a lively atmosphere. The tourist rush began to ease as Sunday came to a close.
Among the visitors was Anita from Delhi, who fondly recalled childhood memories in Shimla. “The air quality here is a relief compared to Delhi’s,” she said, appreciating the clean mountain air.
Mohinder Seth, President of the Shimla Hotel and Tourism Stakeholders Association, noted the uptick in tourism provided some respite for local businesses after a slow season. However, he expressed concerns over the ongoing competition from unregistered B&Bs and homestays, which impact occupancy rates. As winter approaches, hoteliers remain hopeful for sustained visitor interest.
