Dubai partners with Amadeus to boost travel innovation, enhancing visitor experiences, supporting startups, and advancing the city’s role as a global tourism hub.
The Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) has signed a strategic memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Amadeus, a global leader in travel technology, to establish a city-wide ecosystem for the rapid prototyping of travel tech solutions. This initiative aims to enhance Dubai’s position as a leading hub for travel innovation and further build on the record 18.72 million international overnight visitors in 2024.
The MoU was signed by Issam Kazim, CEO of the Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DCTCM), part of DET, and Maher Koubaa, EVP Travel Unit and MD EMEA, Amadeus. It aligns with the Dubai Economic Agenda, D33, to consolidate Dubai’s standing as a global city for business and leisure.
DET and Amadeus currently collaborate in strategic travel data and analytics, programmatic travel advertising, and B2B travel marketing. The MoU expands this partnership, paving the way for Amadeus to establish a Centre of Excellence in Dubai. This center will focus on key areas such as biometrics, airport experience optimization, access management, touchless payments, and air capacity development. It will also support local and global startups while enhancing travel intelligence reporting for hospitality and destinations.
Issam Kazim, CEO of DCTCM, stated that the partnership will further position Dubai as a multifaceted innovation hub, advancing the goals of the D33 agenda. He highlighted Dubai’s business-friendly environment, world-class infrastructure, and strategic location as factors that make it an ideal destination for developing cutting-edge travel solutions. By integrating Amadeus’ expertise with Dubai’s tourism framework, the collaboration is expected to create new opportunities for businesses and startups, driving economic diversification and sustainable growth.
Maher Koubaa, Amadeus’ Executive Vice President Travel Unit and Managing Director EMEA, expressed enthusiasm for working with DET, emphasizing that Amadeus’ technology will enable Dubai to offer personalized travel experiences and set new benchmarks for excellence.
The partnership comes at a crucial time for the global tourism industry, which increasingly relies on technology to adapt to evolving traveler expectations and streamline operations. It aligns with Dubai’s focus on boosting research and development across key sectors through public-private partnerships and supports the D33 Agenda’s objective of leveraging innovation to drive economic growth.
Amadeus continues to drive digital transformation across the travel ecosystem, offering data-driven tools for booking, distribution, analytics, and operational efficiency while fostering innovation to advance the industry.
