The Delhi Government has announced an avant-garde digital single-window clearance system that would simplify and accelerate the process of granting permission for organizing events to event organizers. The breakthrough digital step was announced by Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra on Monday, and is an attempt to further promote the capital city as a premier global destination for events, entertainment, and destination weddings.
Simplifying Event Approvals for Organizers
Today, event organizers are mired in a maze of permits and approvals, which span different departments and often are manual processes. Aware of these complexities, the government hopes that the new digital system will bring all of this together into a clear, accessible, and seamless system. The use of technology will lead to substantially reduced approval time and bureaucratic red-tape and added convenience for event organizers to secure clearances for different events.

In his address, Mishra stressed the commitment of the government towards transforming Delhi as one of the top-most places globally for live events and weddings through an strong ecosystem for public and private partnerships (PPP).

Showcasing Heritage and Cultural Richness of Delhi
There are around 70-80 odd historic monuments in Delhi where we can hold starry tombs ‘ show and tell’ cultural meets, private evenings, events. Minister Mishra emphasized the government’s determination to use these heritage sites to good effect, by correlating events with heritage conservation in order to open Delhi to the world.
Stakeholders in a roundtable with the events industry have suggested specific reforms such as easier permissions, GST waiver on heritage venue events. The objective is straightforward: to enhance these heritage sites and make them more accessible and appealing for the hosting of unique, memorable events that are attractive to local and foreign tourists.
Accelerating the Growth of the MICE Industry through Specific Programmes
The Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) segment also witnessed some strong deliberations during the meeting. Investors provided a roadmap for targeted marketing and access to capital to grow this key industry.
Industry leaders argued for a world-class convention center in Delhi highlighting that a modern infrastructure would be critical in hosting marquee global events. There are also proposals for using empty government land for events – this would solve the space problem as well as slash the price of leasing a venue.
Addressing Venue Distribution and Infrastructure Issues
Stage rent was one of the burning questions raised by those present at the roundtable, along with the lack of public spaces to hold events. Mishra mentioned that he would take note of the complaints on a sensitive issue like allotment of premises, which can ruin and make career of any organisation” and he will “bring the issue in the attention of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.”
Officials also suggested out-of-the-box ideas like uploading government-sponsored events on commercial platforms such as BookMyShow for greater public involvement and reach.
