Marriott Marquis Houston, the city’s premier downtown hotel, announces Chef Edgar Maldonado as its new Executive Chef. In this role, Chef Maldanado will lead the hotel’s expansive culinary operations, overseeing the day-to-day management of five distinctive on-site restaurants and 52 banquet facilities while ensuring the delivery of exceptional dining experiences across the 1,000-room property.
Chef Maldonado joins Marriott Marquis Houston with over 27 years of culinary experience, most recently serving as the Executive Chef at several renowned Marriott properties across the country. Originally from Venezuela, his passion for food began at a young age cooking with his mother. He moved to the U.S. to attend Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Orlando, and began his culinary career shortly after at the Sawgrass Marriott Resort and Spa in Ponte Vedra, FL.
“Chef Maldonado’s dedication to elevating our hotel’s food and beverage offerings with inclusive, health-conscious menus paired with his commitment to team development will be invaluable as we continue to evolve the culinary experience at Marriott Marquis Houston,” said Bernard Hamburger, Director of Food & Beverage of Marriott Marquis Houston. “With six onsite dining concepts, we provide guests the opportunity to experience Oaxacan, Spanish, classic Southern fare and more all under one roof. Chef’s passion for innovation, mentorship, and guest engagement makes him the perfect fit to lead our kitchen and further establish the hotel as a top destination for food lovers.”
Chef Maldonado’s leadership will extend beyond the kitchen, as he plans to introduce interactive culinary experiences, including cooking classes and special events, to the Marriott Marquis Houston guest experience. He will also work closely with the hotel’s award-winning meetings and events team to ensure each event is complemented by memorable, high-quality and customized culinary selections.
“Houston is such a vibrant and diverse destination, consistently ranking in the top 10 food cities in US. I’ve been empowered by Marriott Marquis Houston to shake things up and bring my unique stamp to the resort’s renowned dining program,” said Chef Maldonado. “I look forward to working with my team to create innovative menus that reflect local and cultural flavors and to deliver dining experiences that guests will remember long after they leave.”
