Andhra Pradesh Hotels Association (APHA) has announced a statewide boycott of food delivery apps starting on Oct 14. This was in response to what they alleged are unethical business practices severely affecting the restaurant industry. This decision came after failed negotiations between the association and the food delivery platforms over a range of issues that have plagued restaurant owners for years.APHA alleged that a food delivery platform applies steep discounts without their consent, misleading customers into believing these offers come directly from the restaurants. The discounts, ranging from 125 to 175, have caused significant revenue losses for restaurants. On the other hand, the food delivery platforms reportedly altered menu items and prices without the approval of restaurant management and offered deals such as ‘buy one get one free’ which further cuts into restaurant profits.According to a press release from APHA, when customers cancel orders after preparation, the Apps enforce stringent refund policies that leave restaurants with both the cost of the food and the loss of revenue. Restaurant owners are charged exorbitant promotional fees.
