Beginning Monday, Amtrak will launch a 12th daily round trip on the Pacific Surfliner route, linking Los Angeles and San Diego. This expansion comes in response to growing demand for enhanced flexibility and improved connectivity between Southern California’s major cities. The new service is aimed at providing more convenient travel choices for commuters, tourists, and weekend travelers, all while offering a sustainable alternative to the region’s frequently crowded highways.
The LOSSAN Rail Corridor Agency confirmed that the expanded schedule will better accommodate travelers along this high-demand route. By increasing service frequency, Amtrak aims to make the Pacific Surfliner a more attractive travel choice for those journeying between two of California’s largest urban areas.
New Schedule Announced for Amtrak Trains
The enhanced schedule includes two new departures to give passengers more options throughout the day. The southbound Train 582 will depart Los Angeles Union Station at 4:10 p.m., arriving in San Diego’s Santa Fe Depot at 7:04 p.m. Northbound, Train 593 will leave San Diego at 8:10 p.m., reaching Los Angeles at 10:57 p.m.
The service expansion is a direct response to the growing number of riders using the Pacific Surfliner. With the additional round trip, Amtrak seeks to enhance convenience for both regular commuters and occasional travelers.
Full Service Resumed After Temporary Suspension
Earlier this year, a series of landslides and coastal erosion forced a temporary halt to service along the Pacific Surfliner route near San Clemente. However, after intensive repairs, service was fully restored on June 7, just in time for summer travel. The resumption of full service, paired with the new expanded schedule, ensures a more reliable and timely journey for passengers.
The route between Los Angeles and San Diego is among the busiest in California, and the addition of more round trips is expected to further improve passenger satisfaction by reducing overcrowding and offering more options for those traveling along the coast.
