Istanbul remains one of the most sought-after destinations for Italians, with 19% of passengers opting for it as their final stop. This reflects a 5.4% increase compared to the previous year. Additionally, the number of travelers who pass through Istanbul on their way to other destinations in the airline’s extensive network has grown by 7%, demonstrating the city’s strategic position as a hub.
Enhancing the Transit Experience: Stopover and Tour Programs
To further improve the experience for travelers in transit, Turkish Airlines offers the İstanbul Stopover Program. This initiative provides free overnight stays for those with a layover of 20 hours or more. Additionally, the Tourİstanbul Program offers free guided tours for passengers with layovers between 6 and 24 hours, allowing them to explore the vibrant city during their journey.
Popular Turkish Cities for Italians: Kayseri, Izmir, and Ankara
In 2024, Kayseri, Izmir, and Ankara emerged as the top Turkish cities for Italian travelers, reflecting a shift from 2023, when Antalya was a popular choice. These cities, rich in culture and history, are increasingly drawing visitors from Italy.
International Travel Preferences: Manila, Malé, and Tashkent
Beyond Turkey, Italian travelers continue to favor international destinations like Manila (Philippines), Malé (Maldives), and Tashkent (Uzbekistan), which remain among the top destinations on Turkish Airlines’ global network.

Turkish Airlines has also seen a 9% increase in passengers traveling with pets compared to 2023.
