Delta Air Lines upgrades in-flight connectivity with Hughes Fusion WiFi on new A321neo and A350 aircraft, ensuring seamless internet access for passengers.
Hughes to Equip Delta Air Lines’ New A321neo and A350-1000 Aircraft with Advanced Connectivity
On March 6, Hughes, a subsidiary of EchoStar and a key player in broadband satellite services, revealed that Delta Air Lines has chosen its Hughes Fusion Simultaneous Multi-Orbit In-Flight Connectivity Solution for select newly delivered Airbus A321neo and A350-1000 aircraft.
The integration of this cutting-edge connectivity system expands Delta’s existing partnership with Hughes, which already provides service to over 400 aircraft, including Embraer E-jets, Mitsubishi CRJs (formerly Bombardier), and Boeing 717s. Delta initially selected Hughes’ in-flight connectivity solution for its regional and 717 aircraft in November 2023.
Hughes confirmed that Delta plans to introduce the upgraded connectivity on its Boeing 717 fleet in the second half of 2025, ensuring an enhanced passenger experience across multiple aircraft types.
Pioneering Connectivity Technology
Reza Rasoulian, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Hughes Aviation, described the Hughes Fusion Simultaneous Multi-Orbit In-Flight Connectivity Solution as a groundbreaking advancement in the commercial aviation industry. The technology allows Delta to utilize two satellite networks at the same time, providing more stable and seamless in-flight internet access. This dual-network approach enhances performance, reduces connectivity risks, and ensures uninterrupted service from takeoff to landing.
Delta’s Aircraft Expansion and Connectivity Rollout
With the new connectivity system slated for installation on freshly delivered A321neo and A350-1000 aircraft, Delta is positioned to equip up to 106 jets in the coming years, including those scheduled for delivery after 2027.
According to Delta’s full-year 2024 United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filing, the airline expects to receive 80 A321neo aircraft between 2025 and 2027, with an additional six arriving beyond that timeframe.
For the A350 fleet, Delta’s final nine A350-900 deliveries are set for 2025 (five aircraft) and 2026 (four aircraft). The first eight A350-1000s will arrive between 2026 and 2027, with four deliveries each year. Beyond 2027, the airline will receive its remaining 12 A350-1000s, completing its 20-aircraft order placed in January 2024.
By leveraging Hughes’ advanced in-flight connectivity solutions, Delta Air Lines continues to enhance its onboard experience, ensuring passengers stay connected across its expanding fleet.
