American Airlines is set to enhance its offerings by adding new routes to two popular warm-weather destinations, Cancun and Punta Cana, beginning this November. The airline is expanding its flight services to cater to increased demand for tropical escapes from several U.S. cities.

New Routes to Cancun and Punta Cana

Starting on November 8, 2025, American Airlines will introduce direct flights from Oklahoma City (OKC) to Cancun (CUN) every Saturday. This new service, operated on a Boeing 737, will make American the only airline to offer a direct connection between these two cities. This route will add to American’s robust network, providing a total of 40 peak-day flights to Cancun from 19 destinations across the U.S.

Additionally, on December 6, 2025, American will launch weekly flights to Punta Cana (PUJ) from four U.S. cities: Indianapolis (IND), Nashville (BNA), Pittsburgh (PIT), and Raleigh-Durham (RDU). The new services will operate on a Boeing 737, offering a combined total of 20 peak-day departures from 11 U.S. cities to the Dominican Republic’s top beach destination.

These new flights further expand American Airlines’ tropical network, making it more convenient for travelers to access popular vacation spots in the Caribbean and Mexico.

Hawaii Service Expansion

In addition to the new Caribbean and Mexican routes, American Airlines is also increasing its service to Hawaii. Starting later this year, the airline will introduce seasonal flights from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) to Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport at Keahole (KOA) on the Island of Hawaii. This addition will further strengthen American’s position in the competitive Hawaii market, offering more options for vacationers seeking a Hawaiian getaway.

What the Expansion Means for Travelers

The expanded flight offerings to Cancun and Punta Cana offer travelers more flexibility and convenience, especially those looking to enjoy the beautiful beaches and resorts these destinations offer. Whether it’s a sunny retreat in Mexico or a luxurious stay in the Dominican Republic, American Airlines is ensuring that passengers have seamless connections to these popular vacation spots.

Travelers can look forward to more options for winter and spring getaways, with American Airlines solidifying its role as a leader in connecting major U.S. cities to sought-after international destinations.
